Dennis Rodman got DRAGGED through the dirt by Michael Wilbon after whipping out a magazine mid-game in 1994
Dennis Rodman has some of the toughest critiques thrown against for being a very flamboyant character and the only one in the league during his time. For a good stretch of his career, the Worm was very well sought after for his off court antics rather than his incredible defensive skill set than brought the Detroit Pistons two titles. It seems like certain people weren’t too afraid to slam to the superstar of his personal struggles.
Michael Wilbon, an accredited NBA expert once wrote an entire feature on Dennis Rodman which was published by The Washington Post. In his piece, Wilbon was mainly aggravated by the Worms tendencies of getting extremely heated and physical with his opponents, which was out of competitiveness mostly. The NBA expert also pointed out one incident when Rodman was ejected out of the game.
Apparently, he was seated on the Pistons bench reading a magazine mid-game. This was after getting ejected from the game. This finally triggered Wilbon’s deep disliking towards Dennis Rodman as he pointed the player’s history of controversies. This included his history with Madonna, personal struggles growing up without parents who loved him and his divorce. This was a very personal topic to touch upon.
By the end of his rant, Michael Wilbon passed a bold message saying, “At 33 years old, he’s running out of chances. He can’t fetch much in a trade anymore. No serious contender is going to risk poisoning the locker room by adding him to the mix.” Wilbon’s rant was mainly based on Dennis Rodman’s peculiar behavior. But this came around to bite Wilbon in the back after Rodman joined the Chicago Bulls.
Dennis Rodman joins the greatest dynasty ever and win three NBA title
Dennis Rodman was already a hit amongst NBA fans and several of them loved seeing the Worm compete with other dominant players. Michael Wilbon’s statement of Rodman possibly never finding a good team in the future was a true mistake on his end. He joined the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan in 1995. The rest was history.
The Bulls went on the three-peat again, this time with Dennis Rodman anchoring their defenses. Rodman became a very respectable figure in the league after joining forces with the GOAT. Eventually, he would show his disinterest in playing for other teams and the league slowly let go off him. Rodman was named one of the top 75 players of the NBA last season.
