The NBA officially announced the 2022-23 season All-Star list on Thursday. This is the 6th straight year that LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers star, was named to the NBA All-Star team for the 19th time on Thursday. With this selection, he has officially tied Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most selections in league history. James, who received the most votes overall, will captain one of the teams at the All-Star Game on February 19 in Salt Lake City. James has been named captain for the star-studded game. Moreover, so far in his captaincy, he has never lost an All-Star game. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be another captain and will get to choose his team.
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell has been chosen as the starting guard in this All-Star game. After his selection announcement on Thursday, Mitchell spoke to the media. “I’m definitely blessed and humbled to be a part of this,” Mitchell said during the televised starters’ announcement on TNT. “To be a part of my fourth All-Star and now to be a starter, I couldn’t be happier,” he added.
The league has recently made some changes in the scheme of selection for the roster for the team teams. Both captains will choose the players for their roster right before the game. Previously, the captains had to choose their teams a week or two before the game. The captains will choose players who have been named the starters and the reserves. The list includes players like Nikola Jokic, the two-time defending NBA MVP from Denver; Luka Doncic, the league’s leading scorer from Dallas; Stephen Curry from Golden State; Jayson Tatum from Boston; Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving from Brooklyn; Donovan Mitchell from Cleveland; and Zion Williamson from New Orleans.

Adam Silver says All-Star break will give the NBA an opportunity to honor LeBron James if he breaks scoring record before
The league is anticipating that LeBron will pass Kareem’s All-Time scoring record before the All-Star break happens. The Lakers star is just 157 points away from Kareem’s 38,387 points. He is averaging 29.9 points per game so far into the season. If he continues to average the same, it would take him only 5 games to break the record. Considering that he doesn’t get injured, he will own the scoring title on Feb. 7 in a home game against Oklahoma City Thunder.
Given his thoughts and excitement for the new record James is going to set, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said that he is expecting The 4 x NBA champion to break it before the break. “Calculating out when it might happen, it seems at this point it’s likely to happen before our All-Star break,” he said last week in Paris. He also added that the All-Star break will give the perfect opportunity for NBA to honor the All-Star captain. “If it were to happen before our All-Star break, it seems like the All-Star Game this year, which is in Salt Lake City, may be the perfect opportunity to honor him,” Silver added. This is also 4 x league MVP’s 19th consecutive starting which is the highest in the league history behind Kobe Bryant’s 13.
