“It was like the ultimate f*ck you” Draymond Green emphasises what 4th championship ring meant for his legacy

Draymond Green

Draymond Green is perhaps the fiercest defender of this era of basketball. The future hall of famer will go down in history as one of the greatest defenders, if not the greatest. Green has been the driving force in each of the Golden State Warriors championship run since 2015. Golden State coach Steve Kerr with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green was able to create a unique style of play based on ‘running without the basketball’. Having two of the greatest shooters in NBA history on the team, with Green whose greatest skill apart from defense is pushing the pace of the ball to create more open shots for his teammate made the Warriors’ style of play even easier.

Draymond is also vocal off the court with his opinions and does not shy away from speaking his mind. When Green was asked on Uninterrupted which was his favorite ring so far among the four he has won. He didn’t hold back and said the 4th ring held the most importance. Green said, “for me this was the ultimate f*ck you to everybody…who didn’t believe, to mo*******kers who wrote us off.” 2020-21 wasn’t a good season for the Warriors. Klay Thompson was out of the lineup due to injury, and Draymond was out of the lineup for the most part of the season. The left young core was under the leadership of Stephen Curry who also missed several games due to injury as well.

Several analysts openly declared that the Warriors are done winning championships. Winning the championship last year officially made the Warriors the greatest dynasty of this generation. Golden State was able to create a dynasty after Jodan’s Bulls. They have won 4 championships, of which 3 came against LeBron James, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, which made their dominance even more memorable to the basketball fans.

Draymond Green opens up about the Warriors’ struggle before championship in 2022

Draymond Green

Draymond Green opened up about the struggle Warriors and coach Steve Kerr was going through in the 2021 season. In absence of Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant gone, the younger core of the Warriors’ team was still trying to find its role in the team. More younger players were getting their time on the court which resulted in their failure in the season.

However, the same might have contributed to their championship run next year. The Warriors’ bench and the young group were so talented and confident that it started to seem unfair at times. Jonathan Kuminga, Jordan Poole, Looney, Andrew Wiggins, and others found their identity in the team. However, the struggle in 2021 was real. As Green said: “We were switching game plans every game because Steve [Kerr] was trying to find something to work. He’s coming to me like, ‘Hey Draymond I wish I could just give you a red shirt year‘.

Draymond and the Warriors came strong the next year and added another championship to their bag. Despite Klay Thompson being far from his original self, and Green struggling at the offensive end, the young core came useful to the Warriors. The 4-time NBA champion brutally trolled all his doubters after winning the title. But the biggest question this season remains unsolved for the Warriors, i.e. how are they going to maximize the use of their young players when they are struggling on the court?
