Joel Embiid scored 53 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers crushed Charlotte Hornets 131-113 on Sunday. Embiid backed up his season-high 59 points performance he had against the Utah Jazz on 13th November. The game against the Hornets was spectacular for the big man for many reasons.

The Sixers’ center became the only person in franchise history after Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson to record multiple 50-point games in the same season. He also joined Chamberlain to have at least 30 games with 40 points and 10 rebounds. Embiid is also currently the only player in the league with multiple 50-point games.

Embiid was tearing up the Hornets‘ defense. At one time, in the last three minutes of the 2nd quarter, he scored 15 of his 28 first-half points. Finding the mismatch and punishing them on every possession. Tobias Harris scored 17 points for the Sixers as well, while De’Anthony Melton also added 12 points in the win.

James Harden has shed the role of a scorer and has been playing a full-time point guard with the Sixers now. He scored 19 points and dropped massive 16 dimes alone. Speaking of Embiid’s performance, Harden said, “He made scoring look easy tonight.” The three-time NBA scoring champion also added, “He was in attack mode the entire game… His jump shot was falling. He had an aggressive night.”

The Hornets stayed close to the Sixers’ score in the fourth quarter with Oubre and Rozier’s scoring run. However, Embiid was not done punishing yet, as he unleashed his scoring spree, again. He scored 14 more points in the 4th quarter to take the game away from the Hornets.

After the game, Embiid said that the team has been focused on playing the hot hand, irrespective of the star in the team. “We have a saying that you have to feed the hot hand,” Embiid said. He also added: “You got to keep feeding them until the defense stops it once or twice or three times in that situation. I just kept scoring and they just kept giving me the ball.”
