It goes without saying that Russell Westbrook is one of the most talented players in the NBA. Ever since he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers he has struggled to find a role on the roster. As a result, this has negatively impacted his production level bringing it to the lowest points ever. Regardless of the terrible time, he is having some people still believe he is still a great player.
The 9x All-Star returned to the basketball court after sustaining a mild setback with his hamstring. Russ came off the bench for the very first in over a decade. This was obviously part of the coaching staff’s plan to get the team back on track. And the former MVP certainly showed a glimpse of hope in Darvin Ham‘s scheme.
The Lakers battled the Minnesota Timberwolves in their fifth game of the season. Their efforts did not help them win as the game concluded at 111-102 in favor of the Wolves. Russell Westbrook scored 18 points coming off the bench backed by 8 rebounds and 3 assists while shooting 35.2% from the field.
This could mark the end of all negativity that is being directed at the player only if he remains consistent in his new role. Brodie also came off the bench during the preseason but claimed he did not entirely feel comfortable with the idea. Following his exceptional performance fans went on to cheer him up for it. Russell Westbrook has not entirely been in the wrong regarding the Lakers’ shortcomings. This is the same individual that averaged a triple-double in four different seasons. Last season, he put up 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game which was a mere shadow of what he is capable of. The Lakers’ issues extend past Brodie.
Anthony Davis may be one of the other problems that need immediate fixing. He has been in and out of rotation due to his injury-prone nature. He did not appear against the Wolves due to a back ailment. The other issues revolve around their shooters as they lack consistent ones. They ranked among the bottom teams in shooting percentages.
