The biggest exclusion from the 2023 All-Star game this year among the starters, Joel Embiid, made sure he was ready to put on a show against the MVP front-runner and the top club in the West when Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets paid a visit to Philadelphia on Saturday night. In a 126-119 victory, the big man for the Sixers finished with 47 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 assists, while the Joker managed 24/8/9 in a tremendous game. Even though it was a fantastic performance in and of itself, the game could not be won.

Joel Embiid outmuscled Nikola Jokic and thrashed the Denver Nuggets in their first meeting of the 2022–23 season, sending the NBA world into a frenzy. He discussed whether playing against Nikola Jokic, who has won the MVP award twice, gives any extra motivation after finishing as runner-up to him in both of the past seasons.

Speaking after the game, Embiid said, “I’m used to it. It’s not the first time. I think he’s more of a motivation to go out and try to win the whole thing. Guess that’s the only way I’m probably gonna get that respect. I think we got to pretty good chance. You play the best team in the West down 15 points or something like that, and to come back and to be able to win the game, that gives us a lot of confidence.”

The game had many highlight-worthy moments but Joel Embiid hitting the dagger over Nikola Jokic to end all the possible dreams the Nuggets team had to register a dub won the internet. As with just 29.2 seconds left for the game to end, he drilled a step-back three-pointer and had the Sixers leading the game with 8 big points which eventually won them the game.

In fact, Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and a number of other present-day and former players were enamored with the contest and couldn’t help but give the Sixers center high marks. Here are some more reactions from the fans.

In Year 3 of their personal rivalry for the NBA’s top regular season award, Jokic is currently the overwhelming favorite to complete a historic three-peat. If he does, Jokic will join the eight other players with at least three MVPs, all of whom can be identified by a single name, in the NBA’s all-time elite group: LeBron, Magic, Wilt, Russell, Bird, Moses, Jordan and Kareem

With 25.1 PPG, 11.0 RPG, and 9.9 APG on average, Jokic is almost averaging a triple-double. In contrast, Embiid leads the NBA in scoring with 33.4 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 4.1 APG. Jokic’s season-to-date insane signature game included a triple-double of 40 points, 27 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, Embiid follows it up with a similarly remarkable 59-point, 11-rebound, 8-assist, and 7-block effort.
