“Response was alarming to me” Jaylen Brown calls out Nets owner Joe Tsai citing Kyrie Irving-fiasco

“Response was alarming to me” Jaylen Brown calls out Nets owner Joe Tsai citing Kyrie Irving-fiasco

Joe Tsai, Kyrie Irving and Jaylen Brown

NBA Players Association’s vice president and Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been vocal about his opinions considering the current Kyrie Irving scenario. Brown is not pleased with the way Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai handled the recent incident with Irving and giving the straightforward facts about his prolonged ban and how it connects to Tsai’s ties to China.

The Brooklyn Nets suspended Kyrie Irving after he shared a link to an anti-Semitic documentary on his social media. Six objectives were handed to Kyrie, which he had to finish before rejoining the squad.

Irving finished the last game of his minimum five-game suspension on Saturday and it looks like the Nets All-Star won’t travel with Brooklyn without completing the tasks.

Jaylen Brown, the vice president of the NBA Players Association, has been keeping an eye on the league’s handling of Irving’s punishment. Brown told reporters again on Monday after the Celtics versus Thunder game that he is uncomfortable with the conditions imposed on Irving’s return.

On Monday night, Brown criticized Nets owner Joe Tsai in a press conference. He stated: “Tsai’s response was alarming to me. He didn’t say that the organization was working together to get Kyrie back on the floor. He said that Kyrie had more work to do. As vice president of the players union, it’s part of my job to protect our players legally.”

He then added: “To see Phil Knight first come out and condemn Kyrie, and also see Joe Tsai say he has more work to do, I think it’s time for a larger conversation.”

Kyrie Irving’s antisemitic promotion on social media which faced severe backlash

By sharing a link to the antisemitic movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” which was released in 2018, on Twitter and Instagram, Kyrie Irving was able to link his abominable conduct last week. The film is based on a controversial book of the same title, and some people have asserted that both the book and the movie contain antisemitic overtones.

In response to the subsequent press release, the NBA and Irving’s sponsor Nike, who cut ways with the guard, both made statements condemning antisemitism and hate speech.

Kyrie Irving and ESPN’s Nick Friedell got into a disagreement when Friedell questioned him about the idea of promoting the documentary after sharing the link to the film. Irving and the Nets pledged a $500k donation to organizations and cause combating prejudice and inequality in society but it was rejected by the Anti-Defamation League. In response to the criticism, the organization and the ADL jointly issued a statement. Both NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Nets owner Joe Tsai were also upset by Irving’s absence of an apology.

Jaylen Brown is Kyrie Irving’s biggest vocal support

Jaylen Brown spoke up about this issue before many others did, and he recently gave some critical insight and subtlety that have been ignored throughout the course of this entire scenario. Brown also questioned whether it is currently known when Irving will be permitted to return.

In an interview with Boston Globe Sports last week, he mentioned: “The terms for his return, they seem like a lot, and a lot of the players expressed discomfort with the terms.”

Judging Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike, to be unethical, Brown also questioned on Thursday, “Since when did Nike care about ethics?” on Twitter. This followed after Nike also declared it will break up its relationship with Irving, whose own line of sneakers was one of the most popular with the brand.
