The Boston Celtics will be without one of their best players, as Jaylen Brown has been ruled out with a finger laceration that he suffered in a freak accident at his home. Brown told reporters that he cut his hand on a glass vase that he knocked over while watering his plants on Thursday night. He needed five stitches to close the wound and said he was “p****d” about missing time.
Jaylen Brown, who is averaging career-highs of 26.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, said he expects to be back for the playoffs, which begin next week for the Celtics. Boston has already secured the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and will face the winner of the play-in tournament between the Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks.

The Celtics will have to improve their defense, which has been a weak point this season. The Celtics rank 13th in defensive rating, allowing 111.5 points per 100 possessions. They will hope to get Brown and Smart healthy and ready for the playoffs, where they will face tougher competition and higher stakes.
