LeBron James has finally done it! A record that stood for almost four decades has been broken. King James is now NBA’s all-time leading scorer as he passes legend Kareem – Abdul Jabar.

Kareem – Abdul Jabar, former center for the Los Angeles Lakers played in the NBA for 20 seasons and scored 38,387 career points. For almost 40 years, no other player was able to break this record, not even the great Michael Jordan. LeBron James has squashed all doubts about not including him in the GOAT debates by surpassing Jabar and becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer.

King James broke this herculean record at Crypto.com Arena where the Lakers faced OKC Thunder. The iconic shot that reset the record came in the third quarter with 10.9 seconds left on the play clock. The 38-year-old small forward hit a fadeaway jumper over Thunder’s Kenrich Williams and his score hit 38,388, one more than Jabar’s. While James had a night that no one is ever going to forget, the Lakers, unfortunately, lost 130-133.

After hitting the shot that made him the new all-time leading scorer, LeBron James raised both his hands in the air and looked up towards the sky. The entire arena started chanting “MVP, MVP” and photographers crowded the court to capture the legendary moment to be cherished forever. After the game ended, the Lakers played a montage of James’ career on the arena video board. After that NBA commissioner, Adam Silver and Kareem – Abdul Jabbar himself stepped on the court to congratulate the 4x NBA champion.

“A record that has stood for nearly 40 years,” Silver said. “Many people thought it would never be broken. LeBron, you are the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. Congratulations.” King James posed for a photo with Abdul Jabbar who handed him a basketball which was basically a gesture that meant the mantle has been passed down. James then addressed the arena as he created history. “I just wanna say thank you to the Laker faithful. You guys are one of a kind. To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it means so much to me. It’s very humbling,” James said.

Wishes from all over the world flew in to congratulate LeBron James on creating history. The entire NBA took to social media to send their love and wishes to ‘The Chosen One’, as dubbed by Sports Illustrated when James was still in high school. Even the President of the United States sent his wishes in a 30 seconds video recorded in the White House to congratulate James on his newest record.

President Biden said, “LeBron congratulations. With your whole heart and soul you broke a hollowed record. You elevated the game with more than that Kareem and Bill Russell and others that came before you. You challenged and inspired the nation to be better and do better and live up to our full promise. Keep it going man! Keep the faith. And congratulation to you and your wonderful family. Your mom Gloria, your wife Savannah, your beautiful children – Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri God bless you all.”
