“He reveals his lack of awareness of how history works” Kareem Abdul Jabbar slams Kyrie Irving for promoting antisemitic content
Kareem Abdul Jabbar Kyrie Irving
Kareem Abdul Jabbar is largely considered one of the top three players to set foot on the basketball court. He is a six-time NBA champion, a six-time league MVP, and holds the NBA scoring record. Despite his great achievement on the court his greatest one came from outside the basketball world. Kareem has been a flag bearer of social justice throughout his life and has never hesitated to use his stature and influence for social change.
When news of Irving surfaced in the media, Kareem did not hesitate to speak his mind about the Brooklyn superstar. “Mostly he reveals his lack of awareness of how history works. It’s not an all-you-can-eat buffet from which you can pluck just the dishes you like without any understanding of the context”, opined Kareem on his official webpage. Jabbar has been critical of Kyrie in the past regarding his stance on Covid vaccine.
During his interaction with the media, Irving was “defiant” about his social media posting which unmistakably shows a lack of awareness about his influence on people who follow him. Jabbar slammed Kyrie for lack of awareness. He said, “If he really thinks someone with millions of followers spouting hate speech is the same as Jim in accounting posting on Facebook, then he really is out of step with reality.”
Jabbar was also critical of the way Irving handled the media on Thursday and refused to apologize for his social media post. Kareem said, “there was no explicit apology—which tells us everything about what he really believes.” The Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving each have donated $500,000 to groups opposing hate speech.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaq, Barkley, and other NBA greats slam Kyrie Irving for his antisemitic content
Kareem Abdul Jabbar slammed Kyrie Irving’s antisemitic post saying he was “insulated by fame and money and surrounded by yes-people.” He also said that there is little hope that he will change. In the recent turn of events, Kyrie Irving came under fire for his antisemitic post on his social media handles. When asked by the reporter about his post, Kyrie refused to entertain the question and asked the reporter not to “dehumanize” him.
The former NBA player Reggie Miller also expressed his disappointment regarding the players’ silence on Kyrie’s behavior. “In years past, this league has been great because the players have led the way and they have strong voices…. The players have dropped the ball on this case when it’s been one of their own. It’s been crickets.” Brooklyn Nets have suspended Kyrie Irving for at least five games.
