“Him not starting is nuts” – Kyle Kuzma, Nikola Jokic and fans defend Joel Embiid after snub from All-Star Game starters

The starters for the All-Star Game were released on Thursday, and as usual, there were some omissions that surprised fans. The most ridiculous is number two on the MVP ladder, Joel Embiid, who is averaging 33.4 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game, and 4.1 assists per game this season.

Not only fans but also players are displeased with the omission, the Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma tweeted, “Ngl JoelEmbiid not starting is nuts”. MVP frontrunner of the season Nikola Jokic said, “He deserves it.”

Joel Embiid, starting or not, remains one of the NBA’s most dominant players. After establishing himself as a league MVP runner-up the last two years, trailing only Denver’s Nikola Jokic, Embiid is making a case for the award again, despite a slow start to the season. Embiid will almost certainly earn his sixth All-Star selection this season, but not as a starter.

Joel Embiid fined for his offensive celebration against the Brooklyn Nets

The NBA fined Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid $25,000 for making an obscene gesture on the field. The incident occurred with 6:01 remaining in the third quarter of the Sixers’ 137-133 victory over the Brooklyn Nets at Wells Fargo Center on January 25.

Earlier in the game, the Sixers’ big man, known for his celebratory style, engaged in some competitive jawing with Nets’ Nic Claxton. The competitive fire took over after Brooklyn’s center blocked Embiid’s shot. The two bigs got in each other’s faces, resulting in jawing and, eventually, double technicals.

“He said something he shouldn’t have,” Embiid said postgame. “That’s why when I walked up to his face, I told him to say it to my face again. That’s why he looked away and he didn’t say it again. He knows why. There are not a lot of times when I get in those situations. I’m not going to allow any sort of disrespect. That’s why he couldn’t say it to my face again.”

Kevin Durant responded to Embiid’s celebration on Twitter, writing, ‘Trash Celebration.’ It wasn’t until after the game that Embiid responded to Durant’s jab. Embiid responded to the Nets star’s tweet with a video that was inspired by WWE’s DX.

Embiid finished Philadelphia’s win over Brooklyn with a dominant double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. During the 2022-23 season, the Nets and Sixers will play two more regular-season games. Both meetings will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, on February 11 and April 9.
