“Kyrie Irving is only out for himself,” Mike Francesa believes teams should stay away from trading for him.
Mike Francesa slams Kyrie Irving for requesting another trade
Kyrie Irving submitted a trade request from Brooklyn after contract talks broke down. He has now requested a trade from the Nets for the 2nd time in the past year. To add to already having requested a trade from Cleveland back in 2017. Mike Francesa said, “Anybody who would take a chance on him is out of their mind.”
Kyrie Irving has had a very volatile past when it comes to trades. He demanded a trade from the Cavs after making back-to-back NBA finals. He then went to Boston and injuries hampered his performance. Kyrie also had chemistry issues with some of his teammates and eventually left them in free agency. The relationship between Boston and Kyrie has soured since then as he left them for a division rival.
Kyrie has the talent to make up for his antics
Despite being called a franchise killer, Kyrie does have an NBA championship. He was part of a deadly one-two punch with Lebron James which propelled them to the title. Although Kyrie and Lebron’s relationship ended on a sour note, their time together was unparalleled. Kyrie Irving hit the game-winning shot in the 2016 finals as well as dropping 41 in game 5.
Kyrie averaged 27.7 points over 13 games in the NBA finals with the Cavaliers. However, the fans felt betrayed when he requested a trade. Despite the reputation he has built, teams still want to pursue him. Mike Francesa said “If you have talent, people will always take a chance on you”, while explaining why teams trade for him. This perspective is the most accurate as Kyrie is arguably the best ball handler in the league right now. An All-star starter and a prolific scorer.
Kyrie has just turned 30 years old and has a lot of basketball left in him. However, he has to find a team where he feels comfortable staying because not many teams will be interested in a player with such antics. However, at the end of the day, talent gets you everywhere and Kyrie has an abundance of it.
