The norm-breaking plays of Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook, both on and off the court, are well-known in the NBA fraternity. Recently, a page on Instagram called the Stoner Sports Network shared a highlight post of Westbrook hyping him up for the upcoming season. Notably, Westbrook had kind of fallen off after the iconic 2017 season and people have been writing him off ever since then, talking about how he was just a one-hit wonder and cannot be termed as a great.

Kyrie, on his story, shared the post and wrote, “Let’s not pretend this dude right here didn’t revolutionize the game and inspire all of us to do things YOUR way and say F**k em ALL.” Appreciating Russell on one end, Kyrie also slammed those who are quick to write anyone off after some bad seasons, even though they played huge roles in revolutionizing basketball in their prime years.

The post shared by the owner had the caption“Russell Westbrook Is One Of The Most Exciting Point Guards Of All Time!! Is He Top 10 All Time?!??” Whether or not he has the top 10 status in front of the public is debatable, but in front of Kyrie, he sure is. Both Kyrie and Westbrook are somehow responsible for changing how Point Guards are seen and how the guards play.

How did Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook revolutionize the game?

Point Guards were often seen as short dudes who would be good at handles, and passing the ball, and not as someone who would go down the court, dribbling and hitting lay-ups over big dudes. Well, that’s precisely what Irving and Westbrook did, going against the norm. They inspired many ball handlers playing on the PG position to push for fast breaks, creating solo offenses.

Because of this, more and more, newer players have adopted this playstyle, hitting triple-doubles after triple-doubles in their games. They have become fearless, just as Westbrook was in the iconic 2017 season, where he averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 10.4 assists, rightfully winning the MVP award. Because of these fearless plays, high-flying dunkers can also be guards which has brought a new list of players like Scoot Henderson.

Westbrook, in particular, inspired guards to use their athleticism to their advantage and play much above the rim as compared to how guards are expected to play. As Russell has signed the meager $7.8 Million contract with the LA Clippers for this season, adding more fortune to his net worth, he will look to bring back the flare which he used to have in his earlier years.
