Per NBA Insider Brian Windhorst, The Philadelphia 76ers have not shown any appetite to pay James Harden the max. Previously, Harden was rumored to return to the Houston Rockets under the guidance of Ime Udoka. The Rockets, who have been enthusiastic about getting Harden back, were apparently just a decoy.

Windhorst had previously given the reason why Harden’s Rockets rumors were being made such a big deal. He had said, “I also think that both of them, Kyrie showing up to Laker games. James Harden is rumored to be attached to the [Houston] Rockets. I still think/suspect all of that is one giant leverage play.”

He added, “Whatever he [Harden] may do between now and free agency to try to get the juiciest offer he can from the team he’s on. ‘Cause [the Sixers and Mavericks] face the most damage from losing those guys [Harden and Irving].”

Harden not getting the desired offer could be a bad sign for Joel Embiid, whose championship aspirations could be put on hold.

But now, all of Embiid’s plans for next season will be put on hold, considering Harden’s contract situation.
