The Dallas Mavericks will be one of the most active teams this postseason. After their horrendous collapse in the 2022-23 NBA season, fans expect the Mavericks to rebuild well. Dallas has been a competitive team in the past; however, they failed to impress both fans and critics with their performance last season. Both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic failed to lead the team to pick a Play-In spot. Their season ended with them at the 11th spot on the Western Conference rankings.

With an opportunity to rebuild, the Mavs are expected to go hunting before the next season. Despite many trade rumours, they are now reported to intend to build around the two star guards at their service. There’s no doubt that both Irving and Doncic are highly talented offensive forces. However, the Mavericks would need more players to enhance their defensive play. The aspect of their game that was left exposed and led to their downfall.

“I think the things that (Kyrie Irving) said along the way about how he feels here, how he feels appreciated, how he feels accepted and allowed to be himself, those are the things that he said kind of consistently,” Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison said of Irving during his media exit interview. “That’s what gives me the optimism that he wants to be here.”

“I’m a free agent this summer, but I am in no rush to make a decision,” Irving said on his Instagram Live from Wednesday. “When (media personalities) speak on my name and they’re talking about potential teams that I’m going to, can y’all please; I respectfully, I’m asking you, stop paying attention to that.”

Despite the constant rumours, there are absolutely no solid reports of Irving’s future in the NBA. The star guard is a free agent for the 2023-24 NBA season and is expected to have multiple teams in his pursuit. Moreover, he is eligible to sign a contract worth up to $272 million over five years if he was to re-sign with the Mavs

On the other hand, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers are reported to be strong in their pursuit of Irving. One of the most popular rumours is that of the guard teaming up with former teammate LeBron James. However, the Lakers are expected to offer young prospects like Rui Hachimura and/or Austin Reaves in the process.

As of now, these are still early days for any concrete decision about where players would end up for the next season. It will be interesting to see where Kyrie Irving would end up next season. Will he resign with the Dallas Mavericks and continue playing alongside Luka Doncic? Or get traded to the Los Angeles Lakers? Or maybe end up joining a different team altogether?
