“I saw them play alongside each other when America won gold” NBA Analyst calls Jrue Holiday as a better partner for Kevin Durant than Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving and Jrue Holiday

Jrue Holiday and Kyrie Irving are two of the best point guards in the NBA. Both are previous champions who will play key roles in their respective teams’ title hopes next season. The latest announcement of ESPN’s top 100 players may have surprised many in terms of both point guards’ ranks. Holiday was ranked #26 while “Uncle Drew” was ranked #33, which former NBA Insider Brian Windhorst heartily agreed on. He stated:

“I think if you called the Nets and gave them a truth serum and said, if you could trade Kyrie for Jrue Holiday right now they would. The reason I think he’s ranked higher is because he’s an A+ defender. “I saw him play alongside Kevin Durant when the Americans won the gold medal in Tokyo last year. He was awesome next to Kevin Durant.”

Jrue Holiday vs Kyrie Irving in terms of their reliability for respective franchises

Irving missed the Brooklyn Nets‘ entire regular season after failing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. He also struggled in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics. A completely healthy Irving in the postseason couldn’t save Kevin Durant from a first-round sweep by the Eastern Conference champions. Meanwhile, Jrue Holiday was as consistent as ever in both the regular season and the playoffs. In the absence of Khris Middleton, Holiday emerged as the Milwaukee Bucks’ most deadly threat on both ends of the floor, second only to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Against Boston, Holiday averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. This represented a significant improvement over his stats when the Bucks defeated the Chicago Bulls in the first round. In that series, he averaged 16.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 0.8 steals. Jrue Holiday has spent the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 126 games. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving has 103 games played in his three-year career with the Brooklyn Nets. Holiday clearly has the advantage in terms of availability and dependability.

When the Bucks and Nets met in the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs in 2021, the two players faced off against each other. The series came to a close with a historic Game 7. Milwaukee passed through the eye of the needle versus Brooklyn before winning its first championship in half a century. The change was noticeable last season, when Jrue Holiday played his finest series of his career against the Boston Celtics. Except for Game 1, Kyrie Irving however didn’t have major a contribution and was hence failed to impress against Boston’s tough defence.
