Since the Kyrie Irving saga of unavailability started, Stephen A. Smith has been on record saying he would never give the former Brooklyn Nets star a long-term deal. He has always been consistent in his remarks on Irving, as well as in his reluctance to extend his contract beyond a year. The ESPN host reiterated his statement on his podcast K[NO]W MERCY. He released a brief clip of the podcast about the crafty point guard and his deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and Smith has been warning team owners that if it were him, he would not sign the player to a long term deal. “I am not giving that brother a long-term deal because I can’t trust him, said the NBA analyst. He added that the former Nets star has his heart in the right place but thinks he is above everybody else when it comes to mind. “It ain’t because he is some bad guy. Kyrie is not a malicious person….he just believes, he is more knowledgeable than anybody else,” he added.

The ESPN analyst said that Irving is the kind of player who thinks he is above everybody. He also remarked that the new Mavericks star thinks it is a privilege for fans to watch him play while it should be the other way around. “Kyrie Irving is a guy who believes it is a privilege for you, to watch him play, rather than it being a privilege, he possesses to have the skills that he has to put on display for us to watch,” Smith wrote on Twitter.

Irving sent out a heartwarming message to Brooklyn and all the Nets fans and thanked them for their love and support throughout his stay. “Thank you NetsWorld fans and supporters for the Love on and off the court,” Irving tweeted early Monday morning. “I will forever be grateful I got to live out my dream I had as a Kid with y’all. It will always be Love from me and my family,” he added.

This season’s trade deadline kept the basketball world awake at night while owners moved pieces to better their teams. Perhaps, this was the biggest midseason trade in recent memory. The storm started with Irving asking the Nets to trade him elsewhere. Initially, there was news that he wanted to join LeBron James and the Lakers in LA; however, the deal didn’t go through. Finally, the deal between the Nets and the Mavs happened, sending Irving to Dallas.
