“Something told me just to answer it” Terance Mann revisits the phone call that got him into NBA

Terance Mann has finally found his role and place on the Los Angeles Clippers roster. After a slow start to the season, Mann is slowly finding his groove and contributing on both ends of the glass. The Clippers are not where they were expected or they themselves did. After Kawhi Leonard’s injury, they found themselves spinning in the circle again. However, after Kawhi returned to the roster, the Clippers and Terance Mann are expected to pick the pace.

Terance Mann recently opened up about his journey into the NBA. Mann told that he was at the airport with 1% battery left in his phone and the phone call he picked up changed his life forever. Recalling the incident on Nick Young’s podcast, Mann said, “I was at the airport and I left the G-League combine and my phone was at 1% at the airport and I was to security and I was getting a call from somebody from a random number.”

A bit of luck also played in Terance’s favor as he was reluctant to pick up the phone. Mann happily recalled, “I was like I can’t answer it if I answer this my phone is gonna die and I needed my ticket… I answered and I ended up being the NBA Combine telling me to come back.” Since joining the Clippers in 2019, Mann has been crucial in the team’s success. His unforgettable 39-point performance against the Utah Jazz in Game 6 is still fresh in our memory.

Several coaches and staff before have doubted Mann and told him he had no place in the NBA. But he spoke about his coach at Florida State. According to Mann, he was the only person that believed Terance could go to the NBA. Speaking of his coach, Mann said, “I don’t know how he saw it, but he saw it.”

Terance Mann has found his place on the Clippers’ roster

Terance Mann experienced a period of restricted playing time as all late-drafted players do. He has earned his spot in the team with sweat and blood. In recent games, he has been an essential element on both sides of the court for the Clippers. Earlier this season, since he had a slow start, the coaching staff was still determining his position in the team but not only the coaching staff figured it out but Mann himself as well.

Since Kawhi Leonard is back in the lineup from the injury, the Clipper’s fate might change. Mann has long considered Partick Beverly his role model, in terms of tenacity and playing hardcore basketball on both ends of the floor. Terance Man can defend, get the rebounds even on the offensive glass to give his team a second chance, and he can drop corner 3s as well. Although he has been averaging 4 points less than his last season with the Clippers, he has been more efficient with his field goal percentage.
