“This ain’t new!” Dennis Rodman calls out Travis Scott for COPYING his Nike shoe design from his basketball days
NBA legend Dennis Rodman claims he was the first to wear shoes with a backward Nike swoosh and accuses rapper Travis Scott of copying his design.
Travis Scott, the world-renowned rapper and sneaker aficionado, has been accused of copying the design of his Nike shoes from basketball legend Dennis Rodman. The accusation centers on the backward Nike swoosh design that Rodman had introduced with his Nike Air Darwin during his time with the San Antonio Spurs.
Rodman made the accusation at a sneaker convention in Chicago, where he held up a pair of Scott’s AJ1 Retro High OG sneakers, which also sported a backward Nike swoosh.
In a video that quickly went viral on social media, Rodman demanded recognition from Scott, saying, “Travis Scott has copied my shoe. Come on Travis, give me some credit, you know? You copied my shit. This ain’t new, brother. Either way, congratulations.“
Scott has yet to respond to Rodman’s claim publicly. However, he is currently dealing with other issues, including allegations of assault and a legal dispute with his ex-girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, over their son’s name change. Scott has denied these allegations.
Despite the controversy, Scott’s collaboration with Nike and Jordan Brand has been hugely successful, with his AJ1 Retro High OG sneakers selling out instantly upon their release in 2019 and now reselling for thousands of dollars online. The shoes are part of a larger collaboration between Scott and Nike, which includes several other sneaker designs and apparel.

How has Travis Scott responded to the Dennis Rodman allegations
Scott has not publicly responded to Rodman’s call-out yet, probably because he has other issues to deal with. The rapper is currently facing allegations of assaulting a sound engineer and a fan on different occasions, which he has denied. He is also involved in a legal dispute with his ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner over their son’s name change.
Scott’s collaboration with Nike and Jordan Brand has been one of the most successful and sought-after in recent years. His AJ1 Retro High OG sneakers were released in 2019 and sold out instantly. They are now reselling for thousands of dollars online.
Scott is not the only celebrity who has used the backward Nike swoosh on their shoes. Other notable examples include Virgil Abloh’s Off-White collection and Drake’s OVO line. However, Rodman seems to believe that he deserves some recognition for being the original innovator of flipping the logo.
Whether Scott will acknowledge Rodman’s claim or not remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: both men have left their mark on sneaker culture and basketball history.
