Victor Wembanyama is a rare talent that the basketball world has never seen before, and he recently concluded his debut year with a significant impact. There are numerous clips of Wemby doing seemingly impossible feats, one of them occurred lately while he was guarding his side of the court all by himself against three opponents of the Memphis Grizzlies. The clip even surprised the former Chicago Bulls center, Joakim Noah.

Mike Miller gave Joakim Noah a fan-sent question on The OG podcast: “If he wanted to play with any player in today’s era, who could that be?” Without pausing to consider his response, Noah picked Victor Wembanyama.

The player cited Wemby’s outstanding rookie season performance as justification. He also used Wemby’s game versus the Grizzlies as an example, where players had to throw the ball to each other instead of going directly to him.

Joakim Noah does not think Victor Wembanyama should be getting the DPOY

The NBA OG Joakim Noah wants to play with Wemby because, at the moment, no one in the NBA is like him. However, he had a different opinion of Victor Wembanyama winning the DPOY trophy. He explained that for Wemby to become an outstanding defender, he must unite his squad and consider how winning is affected. The San Antonio Spurs, are not good as a defensive team is currently the general consensus. 

You have got to be a top defense, a top team defense. Individually is he the best defender> Yes but you know, when you are the big guy, who are the one who's got to orchestrate the other guys. That's a big part of it too. Your blocks are great, but are your blocks staying in bounds? I want to know how you are affecting winning.
Joakim Noah added

The Spurs were ranked 22nd and had a defensive rating of 116.4. Although Wemby is undoubtedly a fantastic defender, the team’s winning percentage speaks for itself. Even if Rudy Gobert is the clear favorite to win this time around as well, it won’t bother anyone if the 20-year-old rookie succeeds.
