Travis Kelce has had an eventful offseason. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end tied the knot with pop icon Taylor Swift in a private yet lavish wedding at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York.

Amidst his ongoing preparations for the Chiefs’ spring training camp, Kelce received a piece of marriage advice from one of Kansas City’s veteran football experts. Neal Jones, who has covered the Chiefs, KC Royals, and other Kansas City-based sports teams for more than three decades, gave a grim perspective of a player’s life after marriage.

In a recent on-air interview, Jones claimed that the only player he has ever seen succeed after marriage was legendary American golfer Jack Nicklaus.

I’ve always said that… I think stability is good for a football player… for an athlete, and stability starts at home. It sure seems like listening to people who know Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, have been around them, they are a great couple. Great for each other.

Kelce and Swift began dating in 2023. Swift made it official by frequenting Chiefs games. She watched the Chiefs win and lose Super Bowls in consecutive years.

Kelce came close to retiring following the Chiefs’ disappointing Super Bowl loss in 2024 against the Eagles. However, Swift persuaded the All-Pro athlete to continue playing football. Not long after, Kelce proposed to the Grammy winner after shooting an episode of his New Heights podcast.

It wasn’t a great year as Kelce had envisioned. The Chiefs finished 6-11, lost Patrick Mahomes to an ACL injury, and missed the playoffs for the first time since Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback.

Then again, Kelce was Mahomes’ leading target man. Kelce led the Chiefs receivers with 76 receptions for 851 yards and scored 5 touchdowns. Neal Jones acknowledged that Kelce, 36, may have slowed down, but can still be deadly on the field.

[Travis Kelce] did not play badly. The team did not play well. Is he one of the best players in the NFL? No. But is he still a winning player? I think he absolutely is.

Kelce and Swift married on July 3 at MSG. More than one thousand guests attended the ceremony, including current and former Chiefs players, coaches and several broadcast personnel.

Among the guests to attend the “Royal Wedding” at MSG were the parents of both the bride and the bridegroom. Kelce’s older brother Jason Kelce, his sister-in-law Kylie Kelce, and their eldest daughter, who reportedly acted as the flower girl.

As mainstream news channels and independent media outlets and guests weren’t allowed to take pictures or film inside the venue, not much is known about the ceremony. The only information available on the open market is the firsthand memoirs of the guests.

Kylie Kelce recently added a little to the story on her Not Gonna Lie podcast.

I would like to say congratulations to Tay [Taylor Swift] and Trav [Travis Kelce]. It was absolutely magical. I’m so happy for them, [and I] love them so, so dearly … [the wedding] was only making it official because Taylor’s been family now for quite some time.

Kylie Kelce said

Kylie further added that the ceremony was “intimate and incredible and full of love.”

Kylie is married to Travis’ older brother Jason, who played center for the Eagles. There’s one Super Bowl ring in Jason Kelce’s resume, and he’s a prime candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, just like his younger brother.
