Despite winning the Super Bowl just two years earlier, Jalen Hurts slipped out of the top 10 NFL quarterback rankings. This has confused NFL analyst Nick Wright.

In a recent segment of First Things First on FS1, Wright discussed the rankings at length. Wright noted that Hurts has an impeccable playoff appearance record—never missing a postseason game with the Philadelphia Eagles. He won Super Bowl MVP, and four years earlier, Hurts finished second in the regular season MVP voting. Nick Wright said:

I don’t have him as high as those accolades demand. I think it’s legitimate to debate whether or not he is, after last season, in the top 10. I think that is legitimate… But 17, definitionally, means he’s a below-average quarterback. And that’s crazy. That’s crazy.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler released his annual top quarterback rankings after discussing them with a group of NFL coaches, executives and scouts. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford round out the top three.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was left out, and so was Hurts, while the Eagles’ fierce rivals, the Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, Dak Prescott, placed sixth overall. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert ranked seventh, raising a lot of eyebrows all over the internet.

Herbert delivered a winning season despite playing behind the league’s worst front four. However, he has a 0-3 record in the playoffs while Hurts has won a ring. Wright questioned the methodology behind Herbert being ranked higher than Hurts. Wright added:

I think the two most irrational rankings on this list were the two guys we discussed here, Herbert and Hurts. Cause I think there is a real, both sides argument of ‘Who would you rather have?’

Here’s the top 10 quarterbacks list:

Hurts still received the backing of an AFC coach who’s “betting” on the Pro Bowler’s “Super Bowl credentials, the intangibles and the toughness.”

Wright isn’t the only expert who has an issue with Hurts ranked 17th in the top quarterbacks list. Emmanuel Acho also questioned the list on Speakeasy.

Acho, who played for the Eagles back in the day, claimed that it’s “shameful” to rank Hurts “behind quarterbacks that don’t even have playoff wins. Justin Herbert.” Acho said:

It is utterly shameful to have Jalen Hurts ranked next to fringe quarterbacks like Daniel Jones and Bo Nix.

Acho also noted that Hurts is among the handful of quarterbacks who have a ring. None of the above-mentioned have even played in a final. He added:

The level of disrespect that [Jalen] Hurts is getting with this list is greater than any respect he’s gotten thus far. You can’t put the majority of these quarterbacks on the Philadelphia Eagles and expect the same results.

Hurts, a second-round draft pick, has played 93 games with the Eagles. He has accumulated 1542 completions for 17,891 yards, thrown 110 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. Hurts has also rushed for 3554 yards and scored 63 touchdowns. He has three Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl winner’s medal on his CV.
