Brock Purdy is making a mockery of every NFL team that passed on him in 2022. Purdy isn’t just playing the best football of his life; he’s doing it while posting record numbers.
Analysts singled Purdy out after the San Francisco 49ers crashed out of the divisional playoff game last year. The 26-year-old has answered those critics in the best way possible. The San Francisco 49ers are 6-0 following their Monday Night Football victory over the Washington Commanders.
Purdy completed 21 of 29 passes (72.4%) for 264 yards and one touchdown. In the game, Purdy attempted his 1500th pass in the regular season. According to NFL research, he posted a passer rating of 105.4, surpassing both Lamar Jackson (102.7) and Aaron Rodgers (101.8).
#49ers QB Brock Purdy now has the highest career passer rating in NFL history among QBs with at least 1,500 attempts: 1) Brock Purdy: 105.4 2) Lamar Jackson: 102.7 3) Aaron Rodgers: 101.8 The final pick in the NFL Draft. Alone on top. https://t.co/enzvVkPUN0

Brock Purdy is the best quarterback from his draft class
The Niners drafted Purdy with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Eight more quarterbacks were selected before him, starting with the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Pitt alum Kenny Pickett at 20. The Falcons took Desmond Ridder (74), the Titans drafted Malik Willis (86), the Panthers drafted Matt Corral (94), the Patriots selected Bailey Zappe (137), the Commanders drafted Sam Howell (144), the Steelers took their second QB Chris Oladokun (241), and the Miami Dolphins selected Skylar Thompson (247).

None of the quarterbacks besides Purdy are with the same team where they were drafted. Pickett and Oladokun have won Super Bowls, but as backups. Purdy has made two trips to the NFC Championship Game and the 2023-24 Super Bowl as the Niners’ starter.
Purdy leads the 2022 QB class with 98 touchdowns. The next best is Howell with 22.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the Niners signed him to a five-year, $265 million contract extension.
The Niners’ defense gets a shout-out from Brock Purdy
Twenty of the Niners ‘ twenty-three points came in the first half. Purdy threw a touchdown pass to George Kittle to start the scoring. Running back Christian McCaffrey scored two before the halftime break.
The Niners’ offense stalled after Eddy Pineiro converted a 33-yard field goal. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels threw multiple touchdown passes to Stefon Diggs and Rachaad White.
Washington could have easily scored two more touchdowns, but the Niners’ secondary foiled both chances. Diggs dropped a catch, and then Treylon Burks fumbled a TD pass after hitting the turf hard. Player coverage played a key role in both chances.
Purdy acknowledged the heroics in his post-game speech. He said via KNBR:
Like in the second half… it’s, it was tough, just to do what we did, three-and-outs… I think there were some plays where I could’ve been better for sure—getting the ball out… instead of taking sacks. But… for our defense to do what they did man, I know, it sounds cheesy but it’s true, it’s a team win.
"That second half was tough… I could have been better for sure… For our defense to do what they did at the end, that was really impressive." Despite being frustrated by a poor offensive second half, Brock Purdy praised the 49er defense’s clutch stops to win the game. https://t.co/aWUJ5v3PZF

Third-year safety Malik Mustapha made a couple of highlight-reel plays. The Wake Forest alum stopped Burks from scoring a certain touchdown and also forced a turnover on downs with two minutes left. He said via 95.7 The Game:
Once we got to the catch point, I just wanted to be physical at the point of the attack. In that moment, you’re not thinking about anything other than getting a stop. However it may unfold, is how we get it done.

Brock Purdy and the Niners get positive news about Mike Evans
Veteran receiver Mike Evans didn’t score a touchdown but caught 3 passes for 94 yards. Evans aggravated his Achilles stiffness and left the game. After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said doctors will run more tests on the All-Pro wideout, but shouldn’t keep him out of next week’s game.
Q: Does Evans need to have any more testing (on Achilles)? Shanahan: I don’t believe so. Shanahan said that Evans felt confident he’d be good today, but the team knew he "might not be able to last." https://t.co/kpkj4uDARU

The Niners signed Evans in the offseason as Purdy’s number one target man. Evans has caught 27 passes for 420 yards and 3 touchdowns (more than any Niners receiver in 2026).
Next week, the Niners play the 2-4 Atlanta Falcons. Niners defensive coordinator Raheem Morris coached the Falcons until last year.
