“We took these allegations very seriously!”- Jerry Jones speaks up on the Cowboys cheerleaders controversy

The Dallas Cowboys have been in the news every other week since their early and shocking exit from the playoffs in the NFC Wildcard game against the San Francisco 49ers. There have been talks about coaches being fired and some player changes to come ahead of the next season but the major controversy that the franchise got involved in was not due to any players or coaches.

Earlier this month the Dallas Cowboys paid a settlement of $2.4 million after four members of their cheerleading squad accused a senior team executive of voyeurism in their locker room. Each of the cheerleaders received $399,523.27 after the incident after the settlement was done with them by the franchise.

The Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones recently spoke on all of this and said, “First of all, the cheerleaders are iconic. A vital part of what our organization is, the Dallas Cowboys. We took these allegations very seriously, and We immediately began to look-see, an investigation into the situation.“

One of the cheerleaders alleged that she clearly saw Richard Dalrymple, the Cowboys’ longtime senior vice president for public relations and communications. He was standing behind a partial wall in their locker room with his iPhone extended toward them while they were changing their clothes. According to various sources, Dalrymple gained entry to the back door of the cheerleaders’ locked dressing room by using a security key card.

Jerry Jones further talked about the settlement and said, “I can assure you that had we found that it need be, there would have been firings or there would have been suspensions. As it turns out, in the best interest of our cheerleaders, and the best interest of the organization, in the best interest of our fans, what we decided to do was show the cheerleaders how seriously we took these allegations and we wanted them to know that we were real serious and so the settlement was the way to go,”

To all these claims against him, Richard Dalrymple said, “People who know me, co-workers, the media and colleagues, know who I am and what I’m about, I understand the very serious nature of these claims and do not take them lightly. The accusations are, however, false. One was accidental and the other simply did not happen. Everything that was alleged was thoroughly investigated years ago, and I cooperated fully.”

Since the settlement is all done now, there are no further issues but the name of the franchise and everyone associated with it faced a serious stain due to the claims made by those cheerleaders and Jerry Jones has been under the heat quite often this season mainly due to him backing Mike McCarthy to continue as the head coach of the Cowboys.
