Tom Brady made news last week when he came after the NFL and criticized the standard of play that is held as acceptable now. While some of his peers, such as Aaron Rodgers, agreed with this take, one NFL legend does not see this to be the case. Barry Sanders, the former RB for the Detroit Lions, disputed Brady’s claim and praised the league.

Sanders said on Robert Griffin III’s RG3 and The Ones podcast that Brady’s statements apply to his former teams, namely, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots. However, when it comes to the Detroit Lions, they have been “anything but mediocre’ this season. The former running back is happy with the direction in which the league is heading.

Barry Sanders went on to add,

The team that I played for, it's anything but mediocre.

He expressed how proud he was of this Lions team.

For us, as Lions fans, maybe I just have blinders on, because of how we're leading the division, how well we're playing. But I still see a great product. Still see great teams and a very popular game.

Barry Sanders expressed his happiness over the success of the Detroit Lions this season

Sanders is speaking from the perspective of a Detroit Lions fan, and he is absolutely right. The Lions are 8-3 this season; they are atop the NFC North; it has been a long time coming for Lions’ fans to see their team be this successful. The Lions have a strong defense and their offense has been consistent for the season under Jared Goff.

Barry Sanders went on to add,

I would listen to anything he (Brady) has to say, and I'd have to get into more detail what he's referring to, but I think this is the greatest product, the greatest thing we've ever seen as Lions fans. So I'm going to enjoy this for a while.

Detroit had managed to win just one playoff game in the 10 years that Sanders played for the team. This season, they are well on track to win at least one postseason game and maybe even more.

Both of Brady’s former teams are in shambles, the New England Patriots are set to have their third losing season in four years as they have a 2-9 record and the Tampa Bay Bucs have won 4 this season while losing 6.
