The Cincinnati Bengals entered the Arrowhead as road favorites against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Conference Championship game on Sunday and lost the game 23-20. The Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked the game-winning field that sent his team to their third Super Bowl in five years. However, the Bengals fans think that their opponents might’ve got some help from the NFL officials in their victory.
The Chiefs team might’ve taken the “Burrowhead” talk a little too personally as they played relentless football throughout the game. Their tough defense led by the 7th-year defensive tackle Chris Jones was constantly in the face of the Bengals QB Joe Burrow and managed to sack him 5 times in the game. Furthermore, the Chiefs’ defense picked off the third-year quarterback two times in the Championship game.
Their offense led by MVP candidate QB Patrick Mahomes managed to put enough points on the board to win the game. On the other side, the Cincinnati Bengals managed to put up a very tough fight but eventually failed to close out the game. Furthermore, the Bengals fans blame the refs for their team’s loss and to their point, there were actually a lot of questionable calls throughout the game, including a missed holding penalty during the final minute of the game.
Social media accuses the refs of favoring the Chiefs against the Bengals
During the final seconds of the fourth quarter, the Chiefs faced a 3rd and 4 from around the midfield with just 17 seconds left in the game. The Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes managed to use his legs and get the first down for his team.
However, after the game, the fans started to complain about the refs who missed an obvious hold on Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson by the Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. However, the Cleveland Browns OT Joe Brown chirped in to comment that what Brown did was not within the bounds of what is considered holding in the NFL.
But, during the same play, the fans found another missed holding penalty. The Chiefs’ right guard Trey Smith was seen holding the Bengals’ DL BJ Hill and this time the Browns OT agreed that it was a missed holding penalty by the officials. And that missed penalty led to a game-winning field goal by Harrison Butker.
Nevertheless, the Chiefs played a better game than their opponents and booked their ticket to the Super Bowl, where they will be facing the NFC Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles led by another MVP candidate, QB Jalen Hurts.
