“Keep me in your thoughts,” Bengals QB Joe Burrow wanted to retire from football a few years ago
Burrow pondered an early retirement from football after there were concerns raised regarding his arm length before his NFL draft.

Joe Burrow
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is arguably one of the best in the business in the NFL these days. The 26-year-old almost took the Bengals to their elusive Super Bowl success after 33 years.
He then carried them to yet another AFC Championship game this season, where they lost out to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. All in all, Burrow is one of the hottest quarterback properties in the league given the type of performances he’s put in over the past few seasons.
However, things did not look this simple for Burrow before his NFL draft in 2020. Despite winning the Heisman Trophy in 2020, an award given to the best college football player, there were several doubts regarding his quality.
Joe Burrow’s hands were measured at 9 inches during the 2020 NFL Combine

The pre-draft scouts were apprehensive about Burrow’s hand size and how it would affect his game in the NFL. Reports from the 2020 NFL Combine stated that Burrow’s arm length was measured at nine inches, a number which is considered a bit less for a quarterback.
The LSU graduate took offense to these reports back in the day and took to his Twitter account to make a cheeky comment. He hilariously hinted at taking an early retirement from the sport due to concerns that the football would slip away from his tiny hands.
Burrow wrote, “Considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts.”
Burrow’s success in the NFL since being drafted by the Bengals simply shows how meaningless these measures are in reality. Recently the same talk surrounded Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett, whose hands were measured at meager 8.5 inches, but he too has proved his doubters wrong with a strong performance in his rookie season.
Burrow finished close in the race for this year’s NFL MVP award and is on the verge of achieving greater things very soon, given the quality the Bengals currently possess in their ranks.
