“Unity in the eyes of Misery” – Bills and Bengals fans camp outside UC Medical Center for an update on Damar Hamlin’s condition

No matter how much humans fight with one another over trivial matters or political ones, people come together as one when the community is hit by the tragic news. And the sporting world witnessed the extent of human compassion once again today. Everyone gathered together, irrespective of the team they follow, race, religion, sex, or views to show their endless support for Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, who suffered a terrible injury on Monday Night Football.

The 24-year-old Damar Hamlin had a cardiac arrest in the middle of the Bills-Bengals matchup after he tackled wide receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter. At first, Hamlin got up quickly after colliding with Higgins but then collapsed to the ground.

Medics were called to the field at once and started CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) as the safety was unable to breathe on his own. The entire Paul Brown Stadium watched as the medical professionals were pounding on Hamlin’s chest, trying to revive him. This broke everyone as players and fans cried for the well-being of Damar Hamlin.

Fans wait for an update on Damar Hamlin at UC Medical Center

After a very long 16 minutes on the field, Damar Hamlin was driven to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center from the stadium where he’s currently being treated. The majority of the Buffalo Bills players have stayed back in Cincinnati and are waiting to meet Hamlin. Bengals’ wide receiver Tee Higgins, who had collided with Hamlin, also visited the hospital with his mother to check in on the safety’s family.

Fans from both sides showed solidarity as they rushed to UC Medical Center and continue to wait outside the hospital gates to receive an update on Damar Hamlin. This show of support from the fans restores faith in humanity and that sport is meant to unite us all. A Bengals fan was seen holding a sign that read: “Pray for Buffalo #3 Hamlin.”

All eyes are glued on the UC Medical Center doctors and staff who are working to their bones to heal Damar Hamlin. Fans all around the world are eagerly waiting for an update on his condition and are praying that he gets back up on his feet as soon as possible.
