Chris Jones has been the standout defensive player for the Kansas City Chiefs for multiple seasons now. The 28-year-old DT was drafted in the year 2016 and since then, he has been indispensable for the team.
Jones won 2 Super Bowls with the Chiefs while being named in the Pro Bowl for 4 times during his short career in Kansas. However, with free agency just around the corner, the Chiefs DT has shown concern, as he is in the final year of his 4-year $80 million guaranteed deal.
The Chiefs have a great squad currently and making changes to that roster can have serious implications for their title charge next season. Therefore, it is reported that the Chiefs will look to secure the signing of Jones for some more years and will give him an improved contract. Jones has also shown the same desire to stay with the Chiefs and even took to Twitter to express his views regarding his love for the city of Kansas.
“I’m a chief for life. I will not play for another franchise,” Chris Jones stated on Twitter. The Super Bowl winner wants to retire for the Chiefs and wants to win many Super Bowls with the team.
However, not every wish goes according to plan as the Chiefs recently released Frank Clark after 4 seasons in Kansas City. This can endanger the hopes of Jones signing a new contract if the Chiefs are looking to clear the house. Regardless, the 28-year-old is an asset to the team, and will probably contribute a lot in the future.
Chris Jones strongly speculated to sign a new deal with the Chiefs
The Chiefs have one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL as Chris Jones was one of the finalists for the Defensive Player of the year award, losing out to the formidable 49ers Nick Bosa. Also, Jones’ new tweet regarding his love for the Chiefs must have delighted the team management, who are expected to give him an improved contract anytime soon.
If the Chiefs want to challenge for many Super Bowls in the coming years and build a legacy like the Patriots, then they will have to build a strong core of players who understand each other really well.
It seems like the Chiefs will try to maintain the Mahomes-Kelce-Jones trio for many years to come, as all three of them are of similar age and on top of their game.
