The quarterback domino effect has well and truly taken off in the NFL. Las Vegas Raiders filled their vacant quarterback spot by signing Jimmy Garoppolo after his contract ended with the San Francisco 49ers.

Garoppolo did not have the best of seasons with the 49ers in 2021/22 and was largely questioned for his performances. It continued in 2022/23, and he eventually lost his starting quarterback position to rookie Brock Purdy, who led them to an NFC Championship game.

Jimmy Garoppolo has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Raiders, worth a total of $72.75 million according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero. However, the move did not earn plaudits from popular NFL analyst Colin Cowherd, who isn’t convinced by the former New England Patriots quarterback’s abilities anymore.

Speaking on his show, the Herd, he said, “So if the Raiders finish fourth, it’s the most gifted offensive team in a long time to finish fourth. Garoppolo is more than capable of getting banged up. But you know, the Raiders have a lot of good players.”

Colin Cowherd wants the Raiders to draft a quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft, despite getting hold of Garoppolo as he feels the 31-year-old doesn’t have the physical abilities to compete at the highest level anymore. This isn’t something new with Garoppolo, given the fact that he has suffered major injuries in the past two seasons.

“I also think it creates clarity. Kansas City does not have the Raiders’ offensive talent. You can win a lot of games with Jimmy Garoppolo. They’ll probably draft a quarterback by the way. If you are the Raiders, go draft a quarterback, because Garoppolo has health concerns.”

The Raiders were in need of a quarterback themselves after they let go of Derek Carr to the New Orleans Saints, alongside backup Jarrett Stidham, who is all set to join the Denver Broncos. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels will have the opportunity to work with Garoppolo for the second time, after their spell together as offensive coordinator and player at the Patriots from 2014 to 2017.
