Darius Slay was one of the crucial pillars in the Eagles’ defense throughout the last season. The Eagles lost out to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl after an exceptional run of form in the regular season and the playoffs.
Slay is one of the top defenders in the league currently and was acquired from the Lions in 2020. The five-time Pro Bowler is an influential figure in the Philly dressing room therefore, the Eagles found it way hard to release him.
Although the Eagles would have saved around $17.5 million in their cap budget, they decided to give the 32-year-old a new contract. There was tension in the air regarding Slay’s future with the Eagles. The CB had inquired about a potential trade to another team while also negotiating a contract extension in Philly.
Then later, there was also speculation of the Eagles CB being released after 3 seasons in Philly. However, everything came together for the Super Bowl finalists and they secured a three-year extension with Slay.
The new three-year deal is worth around $42 million, which includes $23 million of fully guaranteed money. Slay decided to celebrate his contract extension by putting out a witty tweet. “Back like I never left!!! Run it back,” Darius Slay said on Twitter.
