The Las Vegas Raiders are yet to award running back Josh Jacobs a long-term contract extension, having placed him on a franchise tag since March 2022. The 25-year-old running back is going through a tough time but found the backing of his teammate, Davante Adams.
Adams has come out once again publicly to put in his support for Jacobs, urging the franchise to hand him a new contract. Jacobs and the Raiders have found it incredibly difficult to meet at a common ground regarding the extension.
Adams highlighted the importance Josh Jacobs has at the franchise and the fact that his presence would be a huge boost in the Raiders’ Super Bowl ambitions during the 2023/24 season. The 30-year-old who is all set to enter his 10th season in the National Football League, also prayed for the differences to disappear very soon between the two contending parties.
Josh Jacobs has also received advice from Davante Adams on how to deal with his current contractual situation
“If we really want to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and having all the elite aspirations that we do, we’re gonna need that guy,” Adams said on a July 21 episode of “NFL Total Access,” via NFL.com. “So I’m praying that we can still figure something out, but also understanding where Josh is coming from and trying to coach him through it at the same time.”
Davante Adams also revealed that he is trying his best to give advice to his younger colleague on how to go about things at this critical juncture, having already experienced such a phase during his time with the Green Bay Packers in 2022. “I’ve been talking to him, we’ve been in his ear a little bit just trying to coach him through this process,” Adams said. “I’ve been through it a couple times myself and I know what it’s like to go back and forth about whether or not you feel appreciated.”
Adams had also shown his backing towards Jacobs during the 2022/23 season, as he made a gesture of seeking more money while celebrating a touchdown scored by his teammate. The incident occurred when Jacobs scored in overtime against the Seattle Seahawks during their Week-12 game. Jacobs rushed for a total of 229 yards in that particular game scoring two touchdowns.
At the moment, Jacobs has a big decision to make personally and it also remains to be seen whether he returns for the Raiders training camp which is scheduled to start on the 25th of July.
