Aqib Talib devastated as brother turns himself in for killing of youth football coach

Aqib Talib is ‘devastated’ as his brother surrenders to the Lancaster Police over the murder of Youth Football Coach Mike Hickmon in Texas. A murder warrant was issued by Lancaster PD for Yaqub Talib aged 39 as he was a strong suspect in the shooting.

According to reports, Yaqub pulled out the gun and shot coach Hickmon multiple times over a disagreement. Hickmon was later pronounced dead in the hospital. The President of the football club Mike Freeman said the disagreement began when Hickmon when to pick up the football and someone kicked it away.

“I don’t know how to explain it to the kids,” Freeman said. “That’s the part that I’m stuck on right now. How do I explain it to them? Why? This is something that these kids will remember for the rest of their life.”

Lancaster PD put out a statement regarding the killing stating “Lancaster investigators have identified the shooter as 39 year old Yaqub Salik Talib. A warrant for murder, a first-degree felony was issued. On (Monday) Yaqub turned himself into Dallas County Jail.

Aqib Talib is a retired cornerback and a five-time Pro Bowler, he played for many teams including the LA Rams and the Denver Broncos. Aqib was also going to be a part of a new show on Prime called ‘Thursday Night Football.

According to Lancaster PD, Yaqub Talib fled after the shooting taking the firearm with him, though he later came back and surrendered himself.

Talib’s Attorney, Clark Birdsall, said to the associated press that his client “regrets the tragic loss of life but self-surrendered this morning so that he may have the chance to say his side of the story.” Though Birdsall didn’t share Yaqub’s side of the story.

This was an unfortunate incident that took the whole league by storm. The former Broncos cornerback’s brother has not been convicted yet and is still a strong suspect in the shooting of coach Hickmon.
