“Dirty AF” – Eagles CB Darius Slay BLATANTLY calls out Mac Jones for his frequent DISHONEST plays on the field
Darius Slay and Mac Jones
During the Bengals-Patriots game on Christmas Eve, the New England Patriots QB, Mac Jones, tried to block Bengals CB Eli Apple by diving at his legs. After the game, Apple called out Jones for what he felt was a dirty play.
Apple accused Jones of being a habitual dirty player. “I thought it was a dirty play. He’s (Mac Jones) done that before, I’ve seen it,” said Apple after the game. And now, Eagles Pro Bowl defensive back Darius Slay has called out the Alabama product for his frequent “dirty plays”. Quoting on a Twitter video that highlights all the dirty plays Mac Jones had in his short NFL career so far, Darius slay wrote “Dirty af”.
The video that Slay retweeted was a compilation video of all the times Mac Jones has been involved in sketchy plays. Just like the Bengals CB Apple mentioned, this is not the first dirty hit of Jones’ career.
During last season the Patriots QB was called out by Panthers’ edge rusher Brian Burns for twisting his ankle during a play. And earlier in this season, Jones was accused of lifting his cleats to hit the Bears safety Jaquan Brisker while sliding down. None of these incidents drew a flag from the NFL officials on the field.
According to reports, the NFL is reviewing Jones’ low block on Eli Apple. While a suspension is highly unlikely since this will be Jones’ first time getting punished for it, it’s still a possibility, among other punishments.
On the business side of things, Mac Jones and the New England Patriots will be focused on winning the rest of their games, starting with their AFC East division rival Miami Dolphins, who they will be facing this Sunday.
Mac Jones has regressed
New England Patriots drafted Mac Jones with the No.15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. The Patriots desperately needed a quarterback at that time and were in a perfect position to get the Alabama quarterback.
Mac Jones didn’t disappoint in his first season as he played at a high level and was a frontrunner for the Offensive Rookie of the Year honor. But Jones has not shown any sign of progress at all in his second season.
Although it may not be his fault completely. Jones is working with a new offensive coordinator and he’s playing behind a bad offensive line along with his receivers aren’t elite either. All of this has troubled Mac Jones all season long. He has been caught yelling profanity by the sideline cameras multiple times. The QB has also shown clear frustrations with his new offensive play caller.
In spite of this, Bill Belichick won’t give up on the 1st round draft pick any soon. But for Jones to get better, he definitely needs a true No.1 wide receiver. There won’t be any No.1 wide receivers available in 2023 free agency, so Belichick has to either draft a wide receiver with his first-round pick or he must use it to trade for a wide receiver.
