The curious case of Lamar Jackson is one which the whole of NFL is currently trying to decipher. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback is on the lookout for a new franchise to play his trade for the upcoming 2023/24 NFL season after requesting a move this offseason.
Jackson was placed on a non-exclusive franchise tagged by the franchise, enabling him to discuss his future with the other NFL teams. However, very few franchises have expressed interest in signing the quarterback this offseason despite his stellar record so far.
One of the very teams to be linked with Lamar Jackson has been the New England Patriots, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet from either parties. However, Jackson has been well warned about joining the most successful NFL franchise by former Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel.
Asante Samuel isn’t the biggest fan of Bill Belichick’s work having spent a few years with him at the Patriots
Samuel who had a successful stint with the Patriots from 2003 to 2007, winning 2 Super Bowl titles did his best to convince Jackson about the dangers of joining the franchise. More than not wanting him to join the Patriots, Asante claimed that he didn’t want the star quarterback to play for head coach Bill Belichick.
“Lamar Jackson, my brother trust me you don’t want to play for Belichick,” Samuel posted Thursday on Twitter. Despite being the most successful head coach in terms of Super Bowl wins with seven titles, Belichick has a reputation of being one of the hard task master in the NFL, something which hasn’t gone well with players numerous times in the past.
Samuel has also criticised the 70-year-old head coach for creating a negative environment in the franchise in the past, while crediting Tom Brady for the number of Super Bowls the franchise won. With the Patriots not having a premier quarterback since the departure of Brady, this might just be the perfect opportunity for them to get hold of Lamar Jackson.
However, it wouldn’t be an easy task as the Ravens would probably match any offer, the quarterback gets during the offseason due to their non-exclusive franchise tag. All in all, it looks like there’s going to be proper fight to land the 2019 NFL MVP.
