When the former Raiders tight end Foster Moreau went through a routine medical check-up with the New Orleans Saints during the free agency, he never would’ve expected a piece of bad news that would turn his life upside down and put a temporary halt to his professional football career.

During a routine physical check-up with the Saints, the free-agent tight end found out he has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. Moreau, 26, who also visited the defending AFC North Champions Cincinnati Bengals as a part of the free agency last week took to social media to let the NFL world know about his cancer.

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau wrote on Twitter. “During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for the people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me and I will continue to seek their guidance.”

The 6’4″ tight end will take time away from the sport for his treatment procedure. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a less common cancer among two types of Lymphoma, the more common is known as non-Hodgkin.

After Foster Moreau revealed his cancer diagnosis, many current and former NFL players including the former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr reached out to show support for their colleague on social media.

Moreau, a New Orleans native played collegiate ball at LSU for four years and was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. During his four years with the Raiders, the talented tight end caught 91 passes for 1107 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Since he was playing behind the Pro Bowl TE Darren Waller, Moreau never saw much action on the field. The 26-year-old tight end’s best year came last year when Waller was out with injuries for the most season.

During the 2022 season, Moreau caught 33 passes for 420 yards and 2 TDs. Once, the TE returns to action, he will certainly light up the field with his talent. In the meantime, let’s hope Moreau beats cancer and gets back to the field soon.
