DeAndre Hopkins is officially a free agent now after the wide receiver was released yesterday by the Arizona Cardinals, thereby bringing an end to his three-year spell at the franchise. According to reports, after his departure, the 30-year-old is now looking for a significant contract, that will be an upgrade on his previous contract.
Hopkins had a brilliant season with the Cardinals in 2022/23 and emerged as their best wide receiver in terms of yards received, despite missing the first six games of the season. He was suspended for those games after being found to have violated the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
The NFL wide receiver market has inflated quite a lot over the past couple of seasons, thereby helping the players earn mammoth contracts from the franchises. Hopkins will hope for a similar situation to occur this offseason, as he aims for an improved contract, especially given the fact that he will have the final say in accepting a contract from any franchise in the league.
DeAndre Hopkins will have complete authority in choosing a franchise now

However, right before his release, Hopkins had dropped several hints as to what he is looking for in his next franchise. The veteran spoke about his future while appearing on the I am Athlete podcast, claiming that he wanted to join a franchise with stable management after he had seen four general managers in his past couple of stints with the Cardinals and the Houston Texans.
“What I want is stable management upstairs. I think that’s something that I haven’t really had the past couple years of my career coming from Houston to being in Arizona. I’ve been through three to four GMs in my career,” Hopkins said while appearing on the “I Am Athlete” podcast.
Hopkins also underlined the importance of the franchise having a good defensive roster, as he felt that championships are actually won by having good defenses. According to various reports, there are currently there franchises, looking closely at his situation in the form of the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens.
Quite interestingly, Hopkins also named five quarterbacks that he wanted to team up with in the future, naming the likes of Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Herbert. This can eventually become a huge hint as to where DeAndre Hopkins ends up signing with this season.
A player of Hopkins’ caliber is bound to attract the big bucks, but now it is an intriguing period as to which team is willing to take a bargain on him for the coming seasons.
