“We’ve got a lot of good players,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones takes a BIG call on the Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush race for No.1 QB spot
The Dallas Cowboys have made a rollicking start to this year’s NFL season as they sit pretty on the second spot in the NFC East division. The string of wins, however, did not appear to be the case when their number 1 quarterback, Dak Prescott, suffered a right thumb injury against the Buccaneers.
After the injury, the onus fell on backup quarterback Cooper Rush to lead the side and, boy, has he fitted into the role exceptionally! The 28-year-old has led them to a 4-1 record in the league and has seen his stocks rise rapidly over the past few weeks.
Jerry Jones chose Dak Prescott as the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys
In fact, Cooper Rush‘s performances have been so good that question marks have started to appear on whether Dak Prescott will return to the starting lineup when he is fit again. However, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has finally settled the debate once and for all, atleast for now.
Jerry Jones said that Prescott will continue to remain the No.1 quarterback for the franchise even though Rush has performed exceptionally well during these weeks. The veteran owner felt it was a good problem to have when all players perform well for a franchise.
“Dak is the No. 1 quarterback, Dak is our guy,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram. “But isn’t it great that somebody came in and played well enough so that we can ask that question? That’s my point.”
However, Jerry Jones could not provide an actual timeline as to when his first choice quarterback would return to the starting lineup, as he continues to nurse the right thumb injury.
“Dak is going to get better this week,” Jones said. “I have no idea whether he’ll line up against Philadelphia, but he’ll get better. And what’s inspirational here is that we’ve got a lot of good players here that didn’t play today that we’ve got help on the way with. Cooper Rush and the Dak Prescott syndrome, so to speak, is a fingerprint of this team.”
