With the 2023 regular season fast approaching, the NFL teams are starting to take shape. The contracts of high-profile players are the talk of NFL Twitter, with the Las Vegas Raiders at the forefront of every football news story. Various rumors since the start of the offseason point to the return of Tom Brady, with speculations of him wearing the Raiders shirt. Fans of the Vegas-based team got a heads-up from former football player Troy Aikman that Brady may make a comeback. While it may be music to many fans’ ears, one particular camp should have alarm bells ringing for them.
The current Raiders quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, picked up a foot injury last season. Subsequently, he signed a 3-year contract with the Raiders before going through surgery in the offseason. However, they had to put in a waiver clause that says, should the 31-year-old fail to recover before the regular season begins, the Raiders will have the complete liberty to let him go.
Even though the news of the 45-year-old Brady joining the Raiders may sound exciting, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels is still hoping for Garoppolo to regain full fitness. Whether the former San Francisco 49ers star manages to recover in time is still in question, as besides Brady, other names are also emerging to replace the 1.88-m QB. While the Raiders can release Garoppolo without a penalty, McDaniels must be anxious about his team’s structure. When asked in the latest Raiders press conference whether he or the fans felt the nerves setting in, he said he does not have any “anxiety.”
The Raiders coach said he does not “worry about the things I can’t control.” According to McDaniels, he has very good information that the Raiders will be okay when the new season starts.

Raiders fans are not too impressed with coach McDaniels’s claims about Garoppolo’s availability
ESPN NFL National reporter Paul Gutierrez on Twitter posted about what Raiders coach McDaniels claimed about Garoppolo’s availability and it has not gone down well with Raiders fans:
The Raiders, after signing Garoppolo, converted his $11.25 million signing bonus into a base salary. This gave the former 49ers QB a total of $22.5 base salary for 2023. As previously mentioned, this also allows them to let go of the players should they fail to recover before the season begins.
This is where Tom Brady enters the picture as an emergency replacement. Should the soon-to-be 45-year-old come out of his retirement and play for the team for which he will be a minority stakeholder, it remains to be seen. However, there are multiple obstacles to overcome for fans to see him put on the Raiders jersey. For Brady to play, he has to have the seal of approval of 24 NFL owners, which seems highly unlikely for now.
