Brock Purdy came as a miracle for the San Francisco 49ers and helped them out of their QB troubles towards the latter half of the season and the playoffs. However, he suffered a brutal ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injury in the NFC playoffs game.
The 49ers were expected to get a win against the Philadelphia Eagles due to Purdy’s spectacular form. Sadly, the QB got injured and hasn’t been able to recover completely since then.
The 23-year-old QB went through surgery recently and the 49ers have not given an exact date for his return. However, HC Kyle Shanahan believes that the young QB can make his return earlier than expected.
Although he is not putting any weight on his throwing arm, Shanahan believes he will start throwing by June and is positive about his week one return to the NFL.
“We’re hoping for Week 1, and I feel pretty optimistic about that,” Kyle Shanahan told reporters. “That’s what we’re hoping for, that he’ll be ready to play in Week 1, and, usually, that doesn’t mean that’s the day he comes back. Usually, you have to come before that to make that goal and that’s kind of the goal we’re hoping for. And I don’t have any reason to think differently.”
Brock Purdy is becoming highly instrumental for the team and will likely reserve the No.1 QB spot for himself when he returns. Mr. Irrelevant has come a long way in just one season.
Brock Purdy is taking recovery one day at a time
Usually, a shoulder injury can turn out to be hazardous in the NFL due to its nature. The throwing arm is essentially important for a QB, and Brock Purdy injured that against the Eagles.
The 49ers QB is confident that he’ll recover as the season starts. However, he has not mentioned any date and has stated to take things one day at a time.
“I feel good, arm is feeling good,” Brock Purdy told reporters. “To say I’m going to be ready by this time or this time, we’re not trying to label any kind of timeline like that. For sure, though, that’s a goal. You want to be ready for the season, and if that’s the case, great. But we’re just taking it one day at a time and don’t want to say anything that we regret down the road or whatever.”
Brock Purdy has lots of weight on his young shoulders and has been given charge of the 49ers’ offense. The team will be looking to challenge for the NFC yet again, and the rookie QB will have to be at his best to make it possible.
