“He’s NOT even a top 64 QB”:Former RB Michael Robinson DESTROYS Baker Mayfield on National Television

Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield has gone through arguably one of the most tumultuous NFL offseason ever. The former first round pick was disresepcted by his former team, the Cleveland Browns after they traded for Deshaun Watson without giving any prior warnings to Baker and then they held the quarterback back trying to keep him as a sort of an insurance policy in case Watson is unable to play this season.

Baker finally got traded to the Carolina Panthers and that is with great difficulty. The quarterback barely got any trade offers in the offseason which made everyone question if he is really worth the hype and does he have what it takes to be a starter in the NFL? Former NFL player Michael Robinson thinks he does not belong in the NFL.

“Baker Mayfield is NOT a starting quarterback”: Michael Robinson believes the Panthers QB is extremely overrated

“To me, there is a mistake, why do we think that Baker Mayfield is one of the top 32 quarterbacks in the NFL, he is not a starting QB in the NFL. He’s NOT. I can make an argument that he might not be one of the top 64 quarterbacks in the NFL,” Mike Rob comments. This is an extremely ridiculous take but the analyst goes on to provide his reasoning behind it.

You look at last year, after week 3 and 5, only 58% completion, under 200 yards passing per game. That AIN’T GOOD. People gonna say ‘He was hurt, he a torn labrum,’ but he walked out there and if you step out on the football field as a teammate and as a football player, I have to assume that you are healthy.” Mike Rob’s reasoning also brings out the irony on how any injured athlete who exceeds expectations is put on a pedestal because of his circumstances but if the same athlete due to the injury performs bad, he is crucified and his injury is looked over.

“I think Case Keenum may have more arm talent, Sam Darnold’s arm talent is better than Baker Mayfield. Both of these guys have won games in the NFL but if you talk about being the starter for the Carolina Panthers, I’m going with Sam Darnold. I don’t think Baker should be given the job in Carolina and I didn’t think he deserved to be the first pick in the draft. Quite frankly, I don’t think he should be playing this year,” Rob concludes.

Baker Mayfield has a lot to prove and he personally would love nothing more than to start this NFL season for the Panthers as they face off against the Browns in the first game. However, given that Darnold has been there longer and is more familiar with the team’s offensive playbook, he is likely to start. Mayfield may not be a top 10 QB in the league but telling that he doesn’t belong in the top 64 QBs is a bit of a far fetch.
