After spending seven seasons with NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys, running back Ezekiel Elliott has now parted ways. The No.4 pick in the NFL Draft 2016 has been released by the Cowboys.

Ezekiel Elliott has signed a $90 million contract extension with the Cowboys in September of 2019 and had four years left in his contract but had no guarented money left. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that they had released Elliott to increase their “flexibility options”.

Ezekiel Elliott had a season to forget last year as he recorded 876 yards and 3.8 yards per carry which is his career low. Elliott is a three time Pro Bowler and rushed for 1,631 yards in 2016 in his rookie year.

It is a well known fact that NFL pundit and analyst Skip Bayless is a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and hence he had a lot to say about the departure of Ezekiel Elliott. While Bayless was appreciative of Elliott’s contributions to the Cowboys team he identified one moment which triggered the latter’s downfall.

As per Skip Bayless, the moment Dallas Cowboys owner offered him the $90 million contract in 2019, it affected his performance. Bayless was bold to say that started Ezekiel Elliott’s ‘meteoric fall’.

And finally, it’s a contractual impasse, and he goes to Cabo and he’s running in the sand, and all of a sudden, Jerry caves in just before the season starts and I said give him his money, make him the highest paid running back in pro football because he had earned it,” said Skip Bayless.

But, as you well know with NFL contracts, it can’t be what you’ve earned. It must be what you will do for said team. And unfortunately, from that moment on, it was a meteoric fall.

Bayless does have a point in his analysis as Elliott’s performances drastically declined with the freshly offered contract and the money factor did have a role to play in it.
