The Buffalo Bills have faced a setback in their 2023-24 NFL season, even without having played a game. The team lost its valuable running back and special teams member Nyheim Hines to a season-ending ACL injury. The bizarre part is that he did not sustain this injury while working out but did so while he was away from the team’s facility.
Hines suffered the knee injury after being struck by a jet ski, as reported by Tom Pelissero. The running back was sitting on a stationary jet ski when he was struck by another jet ski. The other jet ski flew into him, which resulted in him sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Nyheim Hines was lucky as the damage could have been a lot worse, but at least in the interim, he is not expected to be available anytime this season, which means fans will get to see him back in action only in 2024. The Buffalo Bills will now have to scramble to replace Hines as he was the team’s primary kick and punt returner. He formed a vital part of the Bills’ RB core alongside Damien Harris and Latavius Murray. While Hynes did not have any touchdowns last season, his contributions on the field were visible.

Nyheim Hines had two kickoffs leading to touchdowns last season
His performance against the New England Patriots was nothing less than memorable as Hines had two kickoffs, which resulted in touchdowns in the final game of the Buffalo Bills regular season. What made this game even more special for the team was the fact that this was their first match since the horrific injury of Damar Hamlin.
With his injury, wideout Khalil Shakur may become the team’s primary punt returner. However, Deonte Harty and Micah Hyde may also be considered for this role. Hines has had a total of 1,202 yards rushing and 10 rushing TDs in 81 games. He has started 17 of those games. He is great at returning as he has nearly 1,832 yards returned along with four total returning touchdowns to his credit.
Hopefully, Nyheim Hines can make a speedy recovery and come back at the earliest.
