It almost feels like the end of an era at the Green Bay Packers, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers all set to leave the franchise this offseason. The 39-year-old will end his association with the Packers in the coming days after being drafted by them in 2005.

Rodgers will eventually end his trade saga, after he himself acknowledged that his impending trade to the New York Jets, following months of speculation regarding his future at the franchise and in the NFL. The veteran did not have his best of seasons with the Packers in 2022/23 and had left everyone wondering whether he’d return for another season.

As it turns out, he won’t but that wasn’t for the lack of trying on the part of the Packers, with general manager Brian Gutekunst clarifying that they tried contacting him multiple times, only to be refuted by the quarterback. Rodgers did lead the Packers to a Super Bowl title in 2011, but the way he’s handled himself over the course of the past few years did leave a lot to be desired of from the franchise.

Despite a bit of bad taste between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in recent years, head coach Matt LaFleur was full of praise for his esteemed quarterback, as he embarks on a new journey with the Jets. Speaking at the media availability on Tuesday, LaFleur spoke of Rodgers in a positive light reiterating times when the quarterback helped him and his family among many others.

“Yeah, listen, I’m just going to throw it out there right away,” LaFleur said in answering the first question about Rodgers.“First of all, I’ve got nothing but love and appreciation for what Aaron has done for so many in our organization and obviously have experienced a lot of great times together, won a lot of football games together.”

“Ultimately, didn’t bring home a Super Bowl, which will always be disappointing. But he’s done so much for myself and my family, our coaches’ families, so many people within the organization, other players. A lot of people have been rewarded, quite frankly, because of his ability to go out there and play and play at such a high level. I’m just going to kind of leave it at that.”

Rodgers’ impending trade move to the Jets, however, hasn’t been completed as of now, with the franchises yet to agree on the specific draft pick compensation that the Packers would be receiving.
