Lamar Jackson has been embroiled in a contract dispute with the Baltimore Ravens for quite some time now. The 26-year old QB was drafted by the Ravens in 2018 and since then has been their best player.
Jackson broke several records under his rookie contract and even established himself as one of the best QBs in the NFL. However, when his rookie contract expired, Jackson desired a new improved contract that offered guaranteed money.
The Ravens weren’t willing to offer him that contract and franchise tagged him with a much lower salary. The situation has escalated so much that the MVP winner QB has asked to be traded to another team.
This is not the first time a homegrown player has asked to be traded as there has been 4 different cases in the Ravens recent history. OT Orlando Brown, WR Hollywood Brown, TE Hayden Hurst, Safety Chuck Clark and now Lamar Jackson. Each one of these players asked to be traded away from the Ravens due to various circumstances.
The Ravens have come under increased scrutiny after the news was released by Dov Kleiman on Twitter. This repetitive situation indicates that the Baltimore based team usually have a difficult time handling homegrown players with increased potential. There are other teams in the NFL that go through the same situation that the Ravens are in. However, their players don’t ask to be traded and often the situation is resolved internally.
Can Lamar Jackson find a trade this offseason?

The Ravens have non-exclusively franchise tagged Lamar Jackson and have denied to offer him the Deshaun Watson fully guaranteed money. However, that leaves the door open for other teams to approach Jackson and sign a possible deal with him.
If any team offers Jackson a contract, then the Ravens will have the option to either match it or let him go. Nonetheless, recent reports suggest that not a single team has made an official attempt at signing the prolific QB.
Although, there are different teams that are rumored to be interested in signing the QB. The Vikings, Patriots and the Colts are the three contenders. However, it is highly likely that the deal won’t fall through and Jackson will have to play for the Ravens for yet another season or don’t be in the NFL at all.
Lamar Jackson is in a precarious position now and will have to take his next step with extreme caution as his footballing career is on the line and the QB shouldn’t waste it for a lucrative contract.
