Resolution underway as NFL and NFLPA nearing agreement for concussion protocol modifications amidst Tua Tagovailoa controversy

NFL NFLPA Tua Tagovailoa

Tua Tagovailoa suffered two brutal injuries within a span of days with the 2nd one landing him in concussion protocol and out for days but many believe that Tua had no business playing in the second game as the first injury should have kept him out of the second game. This has led to NFL and NFLPA to decide to make amendments to the current concussion protocol.

Both NFL and NFLPA have been at it for days with the aim of having a better concussion protocol that prevents players from returning to the game after suffering an injury like Tua Tagovailoa. They are aiming for better player safety. The negotiations per CBS Sports have been fruitful and the new and improved concussion protocol is just days away from being unveiled.

Players, after being hit and showing gross motor instability like Tua Tagovailoa, won’t be allowed back in the game

The proposed protocol will bis per reports focused on preventing players who have a visible head trauma-a fall or a helmet to helmet hit- followed by some form of gross motor instability which won’t be allowed back in the game.

The motor instability aspect has been hard for the NFL and NFLPA to nail down as a player can stumble and show other motor instability symptoms due to other causes like back or ankle injury, which shouldn’t be enough to remove a player from the game.

The negotiations are now focused on the language of such a rule and both side hope to have the new protocol in place soon. Both sides released statements regarding their hopes to reach an agreement soon.

There is hope that these new concussion protocols will be a gigantic step in the right direction for the health and safety of the athletes. The eyes of the world are on the NFL and NFLPA. Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered the first injury in a win against the Buffalo Bills and the second one against the Cincinnati Bengals, is currently recovering.
