Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers were arguably two of the best players the NFL has seen over the past couple of decades. However, it seems the battle for supremacy is finally over, with Tom Brady announcing his retirement from the NFL.

Brady called it a day on his 23-year long NFL career, after a troubled season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Brady managed to guide his franchise to the playoffs, a defeat against the Cowboys in the wild card round, dashed hopes of a fairytale ending for the legendary quarterback.

While making an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Aaron Rodgers took his time to address his long time rival’s journey in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers quarterback paid his respect for Brady while referring to all that he had said on the same subject last year, when Brady announced his first retirement.

Rodgers was also quick to point out that, although Brady returned to the circuit last year, this time the retirement does feel permanent.

“I said a lot of kind words about Tom last year when he retired. I have a ton of respect for Tom Brady and what he’s accomplished,” Rodgers said. “He’s one of one, for sure. It seems this one is the final, final [retirement]; there’s not going to be a change of heart.

“But I think there always needs to be that room,” Rodgers continued. “Unless you have a major injury, I don’t know if anybody can ever be 100 percent when they say they retire. [What] if some crazy opportunity comes up that he just can’t pass up if he still has the itch? Then leaving the door open isn’t the worst thing.”

It is a tough one to call, whether Tom Brady will eventually make a return to the NFL next season for a second time, especially after he himself said that he’s ‘retired for good.’ For now therefore, it looks to be the end of the road for one of the biggest rivalries in the NFL.
