Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals are tired of the “Underdog” narrative, which was pretty evident after the team beat the Buffalo Bills in divisional playoffs. Even the NFL assumed they wouldn’t get past the Super Bowl favorites Bills and already sold tickets to the Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship game, which was a clear insult to the Bengals.
Well, things didn’t go as the league had wished for and Burrow had the perfect response in “better send those refund” after defeating Buffalo. Head coach Zac Taylor also sarcastically apologized for “screwing things up.” Cincinnati now deserves to be included in talks of the best team in the AFC alongside the Chiefs and the Bills as they have made it to their second straight AFC title game.
In a turn of things that can benefit the Bengals immensely, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was seen limping. His availability for the AFC title was called into question, but the 2022 MVP favorite said that he is doing well and there is a high probability of him suiting up for the game.
Cincinnati Bengals looking to make it to their fourth Super Bowl
The Cincinnati Bengals are really confident as they head to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs, which will be a repeat of last year’s game. The Bengals had defeated the Chiefs in overtime to advance to their third Super Bowl in franchise history. After crushing the Bills, Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton was all pumped up and dubbed the Arrowhead Stadium as “Burrowhead” into an NFL Films camera.
Joe Burrow is 3-0 against Patrick Mahomes, signifying his superiority over the Super Bowl LIV winner. Also, Cincinnati is on a 10-game winning streak and with the offense and defense at their best, there is a chance that last year’s result will be repeated this year as well and the Bengals will defend their AFC Champs title.
Shannon Sharpe talked about the Bengals and their chances of winning against Kansas City. “The Bengals have been doing a lot of talking,” Shannon said on Undisputed. “Earlier this year running back Joe Mixon said ‘We are the team to beat. It’s us now’ and it seems to me they should be confident. They are the defending champs, they are playing the best football. So they have a lot to be confident about.”
Shannon didn’t have a problem with the Bengals’ stars trash-talking throughout the season, but he was irked by Eli Apple for chiming in with others. The Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end said that Apple doesn’t have the right to trash talk given his production this year. All in all, Shannon approves of the Bengals’ sky-high confidence ahead of the championship.
The Bengals have a lot riding on besides the Super Bowl. They have been doing a lot of talking and IF they lose, social media will eat them alive and that’s for sure. It’ll be an interesting game with the Chiefs looking for retribution and the Bengals looking to make it to the Super Bowl twice in a row and win it for the first time in team history.
