The Pittsburgh Steelers are 6-4 through 10 games of the season. It’s a miracle that this team has a winning record, in one of the toughest divisions in the league, with one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Steelers fans have called for the firing of OC Matt Canada for a long time, and their calls have been answered as the organization has finally decided to let go of their offensive coordinator.

Canada was with the Steelers for the past three seasons but hasn’t found much success. The Steelers struggled under Canada to produce consistent offense and this season was no different. The team’s defense has carried the team throughout the season and fans were getting frustrated with Canada and the offense. Amidst all the criticism, the Steelers decided to pull the plug on Canada.

The Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin released a statement regarding the firing of the coordinator. Tomlin said in the statement:

Matt Canada has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator," "I appreciate Matt's hard work and dedication, and I wish him the best moving forward in his career.

The Steelers’ quarterbacks coach, Mike Sullivan is expected to take over the role of OC.

Canada’s first stint with the Steelers came in 2020 as the team’s quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to the OC role in 2021. However, he failed to instil any kind of offensive identity as the Steelers struggled in a loaded AFC. The Steelers will play their next game against the Cincinnati Bengals next Sunday.

Matt Canada’s firing was on the wall as the Steelers offensive struggles continued

The Pittsburgh Steelers came into their game on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns with a 6-3 record. However, after another disastrous offensive performance, they lost the game 13-10. The offensive coordinator, Matt Canada struggled to create a potent offense in Pittsburgh and that resulted in him getting fired from the job.

It was coming though, as the Steelers fans were calling for action for a long time. The Steelers were one of the worst offensive teams under Canada and the frustrations boiled over after the Steelers’ defeat on Sunday. RB Najee Harris went on a rant following the Steelers’ loss to the Browns on Sunday.

Harris said:

You could look at the record and say, 'OK, we're still good right now.' Or we could look at the record and be like, 'If we keep playing this type of football, how long is that s--- going to last?' I look at it like, 'How long that s--- going to last?' Y'all could look at it like it's a good record, but I mean it's the NFL. Winning how we did, it's not going to get us nowhere.

The Steelers are still 6-4 so far this season and have a chance of making the playoffs. They have a dangerous defense and if the offense pulls its weight in the second half of the season, the Steelers might prove to be a tough out in the second half of the season.
