The Pittsburgh Steelers led by their second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett managed to secure a victory against the Tennessee Titans in their week 9 matchup on Thursday. During the game, the Steelers’ Pro Bowl linebacker T.J. Watt proved why he is one of the best defensive players in the league by completing a sack even after losing his helmet.
During the 1st quarter of the game, the Titans were trailing by 7 points and were facing a crucial 3rd and 5 in the red zone. Will Levis, who received the ball from the shotgun position, danced around in the pocket as he couldn’t find any open receivers. Eventually, Levis was sacked and brought down by the Steelers’ former All-Pro pass rusher T.J. Watt.
As Watt began to celebrate his 9th sack of the season, many noticed he was celebrating without his helmet. Eventually, the replay showed Watt’s helmet getting ripped off by an illegal move from the Titans’ offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. But an unfazed Watt managed to complete the sack despite losing his helmet on the play. Check out the footage of the sack attached below.
After the sack, officials threw a flag on the field and called a “hands to the face” penalty on the Titans’ offensive tackle. But the Steelers declined the penalty, which led to the Titans kicking a field goal on the 4th down.
Nonetheless, T.J. Watt had a great game on Thursday as he constantly created chaos in the Titans’ backfield. He managed to register one sack in the game, which takes his total to 9.5 sacks in the ongoing NFL season.
In the end, the Steelers managed to win their week 9 game on the back of an impressive last-minute interception by linebacker Kwon Alexander. With that victory, the Steelers improved to a 4-4 record and are staying in the hunt for a postseason spot.
